Stroke

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients. Within minutes, brain cells begin to die. Strokes can cause lasting brain damage, long-term disability, or even death. There are three main types of strokes: ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, and transient ischemic attack (TIA). Recognizing the signs and symptoms of stroke can lead to faster treatment and better outcomes. Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body. Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination.
